Chairman’s Letter – CGCF 2012 Annual Report

As I look back on my two years as Chairman of the Coral Gables Community Foundation, I am filled with pride in community. We live in a beautiful part of the world. We are blessed in many ways, especially blessed with the people we call neighbors, colleagues and friends.
The Coral Gables Community Foundation has done much in a short period of time. The Foundation over its 22-year history has given back to the community the equivalent of its $4 million asset base. From the smaller monetary programs such as holiday baskets for our seniors provided by our Ponce Society of Young Professionals, to the seed money for great community initiatives such as the Coral Gables Museum and the Coral Gables Art Cinema, we are a vital part of this community.
It is our mission to enhance the lives of the people of Coral Gables.
Whether through one of our more than 20 funds, or through board or young professionals initiatives, we take seriously the goal of achieving our mission.
As immediate past chair, I am proud to have led a board that was part of painting the outside walls of our local high school, providing supplemental funds for the school’s Culinary Arts Program, and initiating a dress shirt and tie drive for the school’s football team. We sponsored t-shirts for the college fair, aided the dance team and awarded need-based scholarships
to worthy students on an annual basis. Our relationship with our local high school is at an all time high. Suffice it to say, there is genuine need in our community.
As we continue with the development efforts of the Foundation, I encourage you to take an active role in our community. Start a donor advised fund that addresses needs that are important to you, contribute to our endowment fund to ensure the future of our community, add the Foundation to your estate plans, and learn more about becoming active with the Foundation.
Thank you for choosing to live in Coral Gables. It is my sincere wish that you share in our mission to enhance the lives of the people of Coral Gables and that you allow the Foundation to help achieve that mission.
