The Coral Gables Community Foundation and City of Coral Gables – the same team that brought you the unforgettable Umbrella Sky event on Giralda Plaza – will present “MOON Over The Gables” in March 2023 at Ponce Circle Park.

The Foundation is developing partnerships that will bring dance, music, cultural and science events in the park to augment the installation featuring UK artist Luke Jerram’s “Museum of the Moon.”

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Join the Coral Gables Community Foundation and the City of Coral Gables on a voyage to the Moon! The Museum of the Moon is a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram.

Measuring seven meters in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimeter of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.*

Over its lifetime, the Museum of the Moon will be presented in several different ways both indoors and outdoors, so altering the experience and interpretation of the artwork. As it travels from place to place, it gathers new musical compositions and an ongoing collection of personal responses, stories and mythologies, as well as highlighting the latest moon science. The installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.

COMMUNITY IMPACT & VALUE

Other cities that have exhibited the Museum of the Moon as a part of art events and festivals have reported significant visitation numbers and benefits to the local economy. Another city with similar demographics exhibited the Museum of the Moon for nine days drawing 40,000 visitors leveraging a $2.4 million economic impact for the local community.

Ponce Circle Park will become the center of activity, through a strategic and coordinated injection of lights and art, providing unique experiences for the entire community and its visitors. These same events will now take place with the moon as the backdrop providing a once in a lifetime experience! The Museum of the Moon sponsors and their logos will be highly visible for the projected visitors.
