Mosaic Art Fund

GRANTS FOR PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS

Established by Coral Gables resident and founder of Mosaicist, Inc. Ray Corral, and Catherine Cathers, arts advocate, the Mosaic Art Fund at the Coral Gables Community Foundation serves to recognize and support regional artists with grants to further their professional development and skill in a variety of disciplines and mediums.

The Mosaic Art Fund encourages artists who have dedicated their lives to developing their art. Grants are intended to assist with artistic exploration, supplies, exhibits, project-related expenses, residences, artistic professional development and opportunities. The Mosaic Art Fund supports professional artists and thus does not fund organizations, educational institutions or students.

AMOUNT
Grants of up to $10,000 with an average of $7,500 are typical for this award.

COMPLIANCE:
A Final Report of 500-600 words is required within thirty (30) days of completion of the grant period. The report shall outline how grant funds were used; how grant funds contributed toward the professional development and skill-building of the Artist; and how the Artist, through this grant, contributed to Coral Gables or the South Florida community. Report should include some work images the Foundation may publish.

The Final Report should include documentation crediting the award in print, on social media or other public platform.

2026 Important Dates

Saturday, April 18th – Application form opens

Thursday, May 14th – Application Deadline

Friday, May 22nd – Finalists notified; interviews May 26-29th.

Tuesday, June 2nd – Award notices sent.

Tuesday, June 16th – Awards Reception

Criteria

Artists are eligible who:

• Are a professional artist, defined as an individual generally recognized as supporting themselves largely or in whole through creation or teaching of a particular art form and whose work reflects study, training, and experience.
• Currently reside in or have maintained an artist studio in Miami-Dade County for at least one (1) year at the time of application and who will continue to reside in or maintain an artist studio in Miami-Dade County for a minimum of the duration of the grant period.
• Are at least 18 years of age.
• Work in: visual arts including craft arts, sculpture, ceramics, mixed/multiple medias, installation, media/digital art.
• Apply on their own behalf and not through a representative. Artists who work in collaboration with others are eligible to submit one application and may not submit additional applications as individuals.

NEW FOR 2026
Note that previous grantees must wait a year before they may be considered again. So if you got an award in June 2025, you are not eligible for 2026.

SUBMISSION MATERIALS

Applicants are required to submit the following with the application:

  • Brief narrative biography, 150 words.
  • Artist statement, 100 words.
  • CV or Resumé
  • Narrative Description: How you will use this grant to impact your career as a professional artist and how will you contribute to the Coral Gables, or South Florida community? (250 words)
  • Do you have an arts practice or connection in any way to Coral Gables, and if so, what is it?
  • Up to ten samples representing the artist’s work; samples should reflect the Artist’s discipline

Additional Support Materials:

  • Limited to no more than 3 pages front/back.
  • Proof of residency in Miami-Dade County (ID document image)

NOTE: Previous grantees ARE eligible to apply every other year, providing for at least one year between grant awards.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. I’m a performing artist. Should I apply? 
A. This grant fund uses a pretty broad definition of visual arts – but it does not include performing or music arts.

Q. I’m a multi-disciplinary artist with a focus on choreography. Should I apply?
A. The fund does not support performance artists (vocal, dance, theatrical).

Q. I received a grant last year. Can I apply again?
A. No, there must be at least one year between grant awards.

Q. When I register at Grantinterface.com I am required to provide a company name. I don’t have one. 
A. Please just use NA or a random word (“banana” or “golf” is fine). We’ll clean it out later as needed. Our system just won’t give anyone a break on this — sorry!

Q. I need to replace a document in my application after I have already submitted it. 
A. If you *really* think it’s important then you can email the Grants Program Team and attach the file with instructions for where it goes. grants@gablesfoundation.org

Q. My files won’t upload to the application form.
A. Make sure each of your image files is less than 2mb in size.
