Fain Scholarship Fund

The Fain Scholarship Fund enhances educational opportunities for the children of active full-time employees of the Royal Caribbean Group, as well as for employees themselves, who are pursuing studies to further their careers.

The Fain Scholarship Fund was established by Richard Fain, former Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, to help make higher education more accessible for the extended Royal Caribbean Group family. The Fund is administered by the Coral Gables Community Foundation in partnership with Royal Caribbean Group.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Applications are evaluated based on academic excellence, financial need, career opportunity, and community service. Students who have received a Fain Scholarship in a prior year receive slight preference when reapplying.

HOW TO APPLY: The application period is announced annually on the Royal Caribbean Group shipboard and shoreside employee networks. Applications are submitted only through the official Fain Scholarship portal at https://rcgfainscholarship.com (the RCG site may be down for maintenance).

SUBJECT AREA: Open to all fields of study. The educational goal must be a degree from an accredited college, not a certificate.

AWARD: This is a one-year award, paid directly to the treasurer at the student’s school. We cannot pay the student directly. Because awards are issued in US Dollars, your school’s bank may deduct a conversion or handling fee when converting the funds into your local currency, so the amount applied to your account may be slightly less than your award amount. In future years, the student may wish to apply again for support as needed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is eligible to apply for the Fain Scholarship?
Royal Caribbean Group employees and their children, worldwide, are eligible to apply, as long as the applicant is enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at an accredited college, university, or vocational/technical institution. Certificate-only programs do not qualify.

How do I apply?
The application period is announced annually on the Royal Caribbean Group shipboard and shoreside employee networks. Applications are submitted through the official Fain Scholarship portal during the open application period.

How are recipients selected?
Applications are evaluated based on academic excellence, financial need, career opportunity, and community service. Students who have received a Fain Scholarship in a prior year receive slight preference when reapplying.

Is there a minimum age to apply?
Yes. Applicants must be at least 18 years old on the date that classes begin. We’re not able to consider applications from younger students, even if they’re planning ahead for a future enrollment year.

How is the award paid?
Scholarship funds are sent by international wire transfer directly to the recipient’s school on the student’s behalf. Once notified of an award, the student is responsible for providing their school’s international bank routing information (such as SWIFT/BIC and account details) so the Coral Gables Community Foundation can process the transfer.

What if the award amount exceeds my tuition expense?
If the scholarship amount is more than what’s owed for tuition, the school’s treasurer or bursar’s office may apply the remaining funds toward other education-related expenses for the student, such as books or fees, or refund the difference to the student — at the school’s discretion.

Can I apply again if I’ve received a Fain Scholarship before?
Yes. Returning applicants are welcome to apply each year, and prior recipients receive slight preference in the selection process.

Who can I contact with questions?
