This Scholarship Fund was created by former Coral Gables Commissioner Kirk R. Menendez to honor the memory of Bruce M. Hayes, 1962-2022, and his leadership and sportsmanship in the 1980 Cavaliers Boys Soccer Team Championship. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the benefits of higher education for student soccer athletes, and to encourage them to go to college.
Requirements
- Be a student currently enrolled as a senior in good standing at Coral Gables Senior High School.
- Must have played on the boys or girls varsity Soccer Team
- Submit a transcript of your grades and GPA from Coral Gables Senior High School.
- Complete an 800 to 1,000-word essay, “What are your plans when your days of playing soccer are over?”
- Submit a letter of recommendation from your coach or the Athletic Director at Coral Gables Senior High.
Value of Scholarship
The scholarship value is up to $2,500, distributed in a single installment. After successful award, the student must complete and return a Scholarship Agreement form. Checks are sent directly from the coral Gables Community Foundation to the bursar’s office of the recipient’s college or university.
