Multiple academic scholarships are available to Coral Gables High School seniors. Scholarships will be awarded based on community service, strong academic performance, demonstration of leadership, integrity, financial need and potential to achieve career goals. Children and grandchildren of Rotarians are not eligible to apply. Scholarship amounts start at $1.000 to a maximum of $5,000.
Requirements and Eligibility
- The applicant must have a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA. Original transcripts are required to be submitted with this application, up to 1st semester of senior year.
- A letter of recommendation from a teacher or school counselor of the applicant.
- A maximum two-page typed essay on how the student’s background, career goals and community
service. - Resume of the applicant indicating paid and volunteer jobs, community service activities,
memberships in clubs, and other organizations. Specify your title and timeframes. List awards and other accolades received from academic performance and community service. Include languages spoken, hobbies, sports and other extracurricular activities. - Awardees may be required to provide documentation such as family or guardian proof of income.
Essay Prompt
The required essay should address the following questions as well as any other information that you feel is pertinent and will assist the committee in making a decision.
- Do you currently have a career goal or an intended college major? What are you passionate about? What are your hobbies? What past experiences have helped define who you are or what you want?
- Colleges you have been accepted to and/or have committed to attend or to which you intend to apply?
- List other monetary awards, grants, scholarships and amounts that you have been awarded. 4) What
motivated your choice of community service, extracurricular activities or work in which you have
participated? - How does the Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self” and “4-Way Test” influence your life decisions?
- What else would you like us to know about you, that we would not see from reading your application?
Four-Way Test
The Rotary Four-Way Test is an ethical guide created by Herbert J. Taylor in 1932, which consists of four questions Rotarians use to evaluate their thoughts, words, and actions
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned ?
- Will it build GOOD WILL and better FRIENDSHIPS ?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned ?
Amount of Award
The minimum award is $1,000 and in 2025 the awards were for $2,500. It’s a one-time disbursement.
