Supports Top Scholars in Miami-Dade High Schools
With a mission to reward academic excellence at every public high school in Miami-Dade County, the Stamps Family Scholarship Fund at the Coral Gables Community Foundation recognizes the top seniors from Miami Dade County’s high schools with scholarships. In 2026, the awards were $20,000 each, split over four years.
The Stamps Family has a long history of transformative philanthropy in education across the country. Now they are bringing that commitment home — investing in Miami-Dade’s most accomplished students in partnership with the Coral Gables Community Foundation. Recipients will be recognized for their academic merit, leadership, and exceptional character.
Eligible schools for 2026 include:
- All 64 ‘traditional’ Public High Schools in Miami Dade County Public Schools
- Nine specific Charters in Miami-Dade County Public Schools
- Nine specific Miami-area Catholic high schools
- Woodstock Union High School, in Woodstock, Vermont
- Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School in Chicago, Illinois
New for 2027:
- Doral Academy Prep is now an eligible school.
Requirements:
- To apply, students must obtain their transcript from the CAP Advisor, and upload it. Application is on an invitation-only basis.
- After award, students must maintain a cumulative 3.0 Grade Point Average during college studies.
- Students must write a brief note to the donors about their progess each year.
- Additional requirements may be found in the Scholarship Agreement.
For Principals and CAP Advisors
- Miami-Dade County Public Schools (Office of Student Services) is assisting the Community Foundation with coordinating an outreach to the principals and CAP advisors of 64 traditional public high schools. Principals will receive information by way of MDCPS during February about how to participate.
- Miami-Dade Charters and Catholic private schools have been contacted about how to refer students.
For Students
- The Stamps Family Scholarship application is available by invitation only.
- If you are expecting an invitation, please check your email daily between March 1 and 12, 2026 for a message sent from your school’s principal or CAP advisor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can I use the funds to attend a technical school? Can I attend a school overseas?
A. Yes. The school must be an accredited educational institution. You must be enrolled full time.
Q. Can I begin school in the Summer Term?
A. You can start any time, but the scholarship will begin coverage no earlier than the Fall 2026 term. Please contact our Scholarship Program staff if you have questions about your specific school and the context. (email: scholarships@gablesfoundation.org)
Q. Does the Community Foundation pay the award directly to the student?
A. The Community Foundation pays directly to the student, unless the student expresses a desire to have the funds go directly to the school’s bursar. Receiving the scholarship directly can have tax implications and you should consult a tax professional for guidance.
Q. I’m a 2024 or 2025 Stamps Family Scholarship recipient. Where do I apply to renew my award?
A. Log in at the GrantInterface.com portal and look for an assigned “Follow Up” item. Most scholarship recipients would do this in May 2026 after they get an updated transcript for the 2025-26 academic year.
Q. What GPA do I need to maintain to renew my scholarship?
A. In order to maintain the scholarship each year, the recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout his/her college studies and provide transcripts through the Community Foundation’s scholarship portal to document performance of grades and full-time attendance requirements. You’ll get a reminder from us in April, and it’s due before we can make the disbursement. There’s no need for an “official” transcript. We recommend that students download a PDF report from the school’s academic portal.
Q. I’m a current Stamps Family Scholarship awardee and wonder about receiving a 1099?
A.. The Coral Gables Community Foundation generally does not issue IRS Forms 1099 to scholarship recipients, as these payments are considered grants for educational purposes rather than compensation for services. Scholarships are typically tax-exempt if used for education related expenditures as detailed by the IRS . Please see a couple of examples below. If you are paid directly, you’ll need to keep great records about your expenses and we recommend that you seek the assistance of a tax advisor.
